🌸There's a Place Where Cherry Blossoms Still Bloom in Mid-April

You planned your Korea trip around cherry blossom season — and then you arrive, only to find that the petals in Seoul have already fallen. That feeling is genuinely heartbreaking, especially when you've traveled so far. Seoul's cherry blossoms typically peak in early April and begin to fall around April 10th. If your trip falls in mid-April, it can feel like you've just missed the whole thing.

But here's what most people don't know: there's one place in Korea where cherry blossoms bloom later than anywhere else in the country. It's called Eden Cherry Blossom Road (에덴벚꽃길), located in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province — about an hour from Seoul. Blooming roughly one to two weeks later than the capital, this spot is essentially the last cherry blossom destination of the season. In this post, I'll cover everything you need to know: location, transportation, bloom timing, festival dates, and a full day-trip itinerary. Keep reading — this one's worth it.

🌸Eden Cherry Blossom Road — Basic Info / Location / Address

Address: Eden Beotkkot-gil, Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do
(경기도 가평군 청평면 에덴벚꽃길)

Eden Cherry Blossom Road stretches approximately 2 kilometers along a stream in Cheongpyeong, Gapyeong. Walking the full length and back takes about an hour at a relaxed pace — perfect for a leisurely stroll.

What makes this path truly distinctive is its red railing (hongyo). The contrast between the soft white blossoms and the deep red iron fence is striking in person, and even more so in photos. A small stream runs alongside the path, and if you look down the road toward the end, you can spot an Eiffel Tower-shaped ride peeking through the trees — it's an oddly charming detail that makes this place feel unlike anywhere else in Korea. Honestly, the first time I saw photos of it, my first thought was, "Wait, is this actually Korea?"

As you walk further in, the branches arch overhead and form a natural tunnel of blossoms. This is the spot where everyone — couples, families, and travelers from all over the world — stops to take photos. And honestly, you'll understand why the moment you're standing inside it.

🌸2025 Gapyeong Cherry Blossom Bloom Time / Peak Season

Here's the timeline for this year:

As of April 2nd, the cherry blossoms at Eden Cherry Blossom Road had not yet opened. The buds were forming, but the flowers were still preparing to bloom. Even as of April 5th — when Seoul's cherry blossoms are at or just past their peak — Gapyeong typically runs about a week behind.

2025 Predicted Peak Bloom: Around April 11th

The reason for the delayed bloom comes down to geography. Gapyeong is surrounded by the Bukhan River and mountain ranges, creating a basin-like terrain where temperatures run cooler and daily temperature swings are larger than in Seoul. That natural environment pushes the bloom timeline later — which is exactly what makes this place so valuable for mid-April travelers.

If Seoul's cherry blossoms are gone by the time you arrive, Gapyeong gives you a second chance at the full bloom experience.

🌸How to Get There — Public Transit / Shuttle Bus Guide

There are a few ways to reach Eden Cherry Blossom Road from Seoul.

① ITX Gyeongchun Line + Shuttle Bus (Festival Weekends Only)

Take the ITX Gyeongchun Line from Cheongnyangni Station or Wangsimni Station in Seoul and get off at Sangcheon Station (상천역). From there, Eden Cherry Blossom Road is about a 5-minute drive.

During festival weekends, a shuttle bus runs directly from Sangcheon Station to the cherry blossom road. If your visit falls on a festival weekend (April 11–12 or April 18–19), this is the easiest option.

② Taxi on Weekdays

On weekdays, the shuttle bus may not be running. In that case, take a taxi from in front of Sangcheon Station. The fare is approximately 7,000–8,000 KRW (about $5–6 USD) and the ride is only around 5 minutes. Just say "에덴벚꽃길 (Eden Beotkkot-gil)" to the driver — they'll know exactly where to go.

③ By Car

If you're driving, search "에덴벚꽃길" or "꿈의동산 가평 (Kkumui Dongsan Gapyeong)" in your navigation app. Note that parking can get congested on festival weekends, so public transit is recommended if possible.

🌸Festival Schedule / Kkumui Dongsan (Dream Land) Info

2025 Gapyeong Eden Cherry Blossom Festival Dates

  • Round 1: Friday April 11 – Saturday April 12
  • Round 2: Friday April 18 – Saturday April 19

During the festival, the area around the cherry blossom road hosts live performances, food stalls, and various events. If you have flexibility in your schedule, timing your visit to one of these weekends is the way to go.

Right next to the cherry blossom road is Kkumui Dongsan (꿈의동산) — a small, wonderfully retro amusement park. Every time I've driven through Gapyeong, I passed right by this place and always wondered what it was. It wasn't until I started researching Eden Cherry Blossom Road that I finally found out.

Kkumui Dongsan is a charmingly old-school amusement park with colorful vintage rides — including a hot air balloon-style Ferris wheel that you can spot in the photos. It has a very distinct 1970s–80s Korean atmosphere that feels completely different from any modern theme park. For travelers visiting from abroad, that kind of retro aesthetic can actually be one of the most memorable and photogenic experiences. Cherry blossoms in the background, vintage rides in the foreground — it's an unexpected combination that makes for genuinely unique photos.

🌸Gapyeong Day Trip Course — Jara Island / Nami Island / Dak-galbi

Gapyeong is worth more than just one stop. The area has several well-known attractions that pair perfectly with a visit to Eden Cherry Blossom Road. Here's how to build a full day trip.

① Jara Island (자라섬)

Located on the Bukhan River near Gapyeong town, Jara Island is a flat, open island famous for its spring wildflowers — rapeseed, poppies, and tulips — and for hosting the Jara Island International Jazz Festival every autumn, one of the largest jazz festivals in Asia. There's no entrance fee, and the riverside walking paths make it a great spot for a relaxed stroll. Combining Jara Island with Eden Cherry Blossom Road in one day gives you a full picture of Gapyeong's natural beauty in spring.

② Nami Island (남이섬)

Nami Island needs little introduction — it's one of Korea's most internationally recognized tourist destinations. The island gained worldwide attention as a filming location for the Korean drama Winter Sonata, and it continues to draw visitors from across the globe. You reach it by ferry from the Namisum dock, and once inside, you'll find dense metasequoia forests, wide green lawns, cafes, and restaurants. It's easily a half-day experience on its own. During cherry blossom season, the island's trees bloom as well, adding another layer of beauty to the scenery. Signage and information are available in multiple languages, making it straightforward for international visitors to navigate.

③ Gapyeong Dak-galbi (닭갈비)

No trip to this region is complete without dak-galbi. While the city of Chuncheon is most famous for this dish, Gapyeong has plenty of excellent dak-galbi restaurants as well. The dish consists of marinated chicken stir-fried on a cast iron pan with gochujang (red pepper paste) sauce, vegetables, and rice cakes. It's spicy, savory, and deeply satisfying — and it consistently ranks as one of the must-eat foods for anyone visiting Korea. Most restaurants in the area offer cheese dak-galbi (치즈 닭갈비) as well, where melted cheese is added to the pan at the end. Highly recommended.

Suggested Day Trip Order

Eden Cherry Blossom Road (morning) → Dak-galbi lunch in Gapyeong→ Jara Island or Nami Island (afternoon) → Return to Seoul
This itinerary fits comfortably within a single day and covers the best of what Gapyeong has to offer.

🌸Why This Spot Is Perfect If You Missed Seoul's Cherry Blossoms

Coming all the way to Korea for cherry blossom season only to find them gone is a genuinely disappointing experience. But Eden Cherry Blossom Road offers blooms through April 19th — making it a real second chance for mid-April travelers. If you're arriving after Seoul's peak has passed, this is essentially your only option for catching the full bloom — and it delivers.

The journey from Seoul's Cheongnyangni Station takes about 40 to 50 minutes on the ITX Gyeongchun Line, making it completely doable as a day trip. A 2km tunnel of cherry blossoms, a red-railed riverside path, a retro amusement park next door, and a full itinerary of Jara Island, Nami Island, and dak-galbi waiting nearby. Honestly, it's a hard combination to beat.

I've driven past that red railing so many times without stopping. Next time, I'm walking the whole thing — slowly, under the blossoms. 🌸
